Manchester United outcast Nemanja Matic has hinted that he could be open to a potential reunion with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs confirmed that the Argentine chief Mauricio Pochettino had been relieved of his duties on Tuesday evening and Jose was announced as the club’s new head coach the following morning.
Daniel Levy’s reluctance to dig deep into his pockets was the main factor in the deterioration of his relationship with Mauricio and the South American struggled to keep a lid on his frustrations with Spurs’ transfer policy towards the end of his tenure.
For this reason, Jose – often criticised for an over-reliance on splashing the cash at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea – seems an odd fit.
In spite of Levy’s recent track record, though, Jose will undoubtedly have one eye on the January transfer market with a view to boosting a Spurs squad badly in need of new ideas and fresh faces.
Rather predictably, one player being bandied about is Matic. Mourinho persuaded the then SL Benfica midfielder to return to Chelsea back in 2014. The pair then joined forces again at the Red Devils in the summer of 2017.
The Serbian has since fallen out of favour at Manchester United, making only five appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term, and is reportedly open to departing the club, with his contract expiring next year.
In response to BenchWarmers’ Instagram post talking up Nemanja’s potential switch to north London, the star responded with a pair of clapping and laughing emojis.
