Manchester United could make a last-minute move for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile as the Red Devils weigh up bringing in extra quality at centre-back, according to the latest reports.
The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace last week in their first match of the new PL season, with Victor Lindelof in particular singled out for his sub-par display.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to point fingers after the defeat while his side were expected to use the final two weeks of the market to strengthen other priority areas, such as the ring side, before addressing the backline at a later date.
But that stance may have changed, with French source L’Equipe claiming that United could make a late attempt to try and prise Benoit away from Monaco.
The 19-year-old ace is extremely highly rated and United have been scouting him for some time, even reportedly launching a move for the youngster earlier this summer.
United’s bid of €25 million (£22.8m) was rejected at the time, but Les Monegasques are bracing themselves for another proposal before the window closes on October 5.
There are significant obstacles that could prevent a reported deal, however, with Badiashile – who is also wanted by Bayer Leverkusen – needing convincing to leave the club.
The French youth international has been promised an important role this season under manager Niko Kovac, while he’d likely need to compete for a starting spot in the United defence.
On the Red Devils’ end, Solskjaer knows he has far too many centre-halves on his books already, with the club actively looking to offload both Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo.
