Manchester United have joined the race for AS Monaco star defender Benoit Badiashile, according to the latest reports.

Norwegian manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hunting for a new centre-half to add to his roster this summer after his defence leaked 10 goals in the final five games of last campaign.

Ajax starlet sensation Matthijs de Ligt looks set to sign for Serie A giants Juventus and United have had a £70m opening offer for Leicester City’s star Harry Maguire rejected.

The Red Devils are expected to continue their reported pursuit of the 26-year-old but the Foxes will not let him go on the cheap and are demanding a record-breaking sum.

As a result, the club are being linked with a host of cheaper alternatives and the latest is Les Monegasques’ 18-year-old Badiashile.

French newspaper L’Equipe, quoted by The Daily Star, reports that Red Devils may have turned their attention to the young centre-back.

It’s reported that United have been watching him for a couple of years and are considering launching a move but that Wolves are also keen as It’s said that the Ligue 1 side will demand £31.4m for Badiashile.

Though he’d be significantly cheaper than Harry, with just 36 senior matches to his name he does not fit the commanding, experienced remit Ole is looking for in his defender, however, Benoit does fit the mould of the club wanting to bring in young, promising talent.
