Barcelona have turned down the opportunity to land Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez on loan in the summer, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.

The 30-year-old star enjoyed a productive three-year spell with Barcelona between 2011 and 2014, netting 47 goals in 141 matches for the club as well as claiming La Liga and the Copa Del Rey titles, however, he was allowed to depart to pave the way for Uturugya striker Luis Suarez to join from EPL giants Liverpool.

Although Alexis initially thrived after departing from Barcelona for Arsenal back in 2014, he has endured a disastrous stint at Manchester United netting just five times since his arrival in winter of 2018, including twice this campaign.

That prolonged disappointing run of form has led to rumours that Sanchez could be allowed to depart from the club when the transfer market re-opens, however, it emerges unlikely that he will return to Blaugrana.

The Catalonia-based outfit have already committed to a huge-money signing at the end of the campaign with highly-rated Dutch star Frenkie De Jong agreeing to join in a huge deal worth a reported £65 million while they have also been connected with his team-mate Matthijs De Ligt.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Blaugrana are unwilling to take Alexis on even temporarily in part because of his astronomical wages at Red Devils, with the Chilean forward reportedly earning £500,000-a-week.

It has been reported somewhere else that Sanchez would be ready to reduce his salary demands in order to have a new start elsewhere, although there are few sides in world football able to offer the player the kind of deal he is currently on. Alexis has suffered an injury-hit season and is currently sidelined with a knee injury.
