Luca Toni expects Italy legend Andrea Pirlo to start his managerial reign at Juventus by bolstering the midfield and has named Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba as the ‘ideal gift’ for his former team-mate.
Andrea’s compatriot Maurizio Sarri was relieved of his duties in the wake of Bianconeri’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Lyon and he was announced as his replacement, just nine days after taking over as U23 boss.
Pogba has long been mentioned with a return to Juve and Andrea’s appointment has done little to slow down the rumour mill, considering the duo enjoyed great success in their three seasons together at the club.
However, Paul has hinted that he expects to be playing at the club next season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears hopeful that the World Cup winner will commit his long-term future to United.
But this has not stopped Toni from talking up an ambitious swoop to bring the World Cup-winning midfielder back to Turin.
‘Knowing Andrea, he will start building from midfield,’ the former Juventus, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich centre-forward told Tuttosport.
‘The ideal gift would be Pogba. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would certainly be the best option.
‘Andrea will not be a coach who focuses on defending and counter-attacking. He loves to dominate the ball and will want to impose that on his team.
‘I don’t know what system he will use and I don’t think it matters. Andrea is intelligent and flexible.’
