Arsenal star Lucas Torreira has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A giants Napoli in the rapidly approaching January transfer market.
Torreira had a terrific first campaign at Arsenal but things have gone downhill this season for the Uruguay midfielder, who is no longer a certainty in the XI.
The 23-year-old star has revealed that he has been unhappy at the club this season and there are suggestions he could seek a transfer out of the club in January window.
The former Sampdoria man remains a highly rated player in Italy and, according to an Italian daily sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport, he is one of the names on Partenopei’s shortlist for January.
The Serie A heavyweights are said to be in the market for midfielders in the winter market and Torreira is a player they are considering signing.
The Naples-based outfit were also interested in him when he left Sampdoria, but lost the race to the Gunners.
With Torreira feeling unsettled at the club, Napoli are considering taking advantage of the situation and testing the club’s willingness to sell the player.
Arsenal are on the observation post for a new manager and it remains to be seen whether they’ll consider taking any major transfer decisions without having a permanent appointment in the dugout.
Meanwhile, The Sun reports Arsenal are interested in landing the on-loan Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The report states that the Gunners lead PL rivals Everton and Leicester City in the race for the Englishman, who has been the subject of regular scouting trips from the London club in the latest weeks.
The defender has made 323 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from Fulham back in 2010.
