Arsenal suffered an injury setback as defender David Luiz departed early in the second half of Sunday night’s PL clash with Leicester City.

David had to be substituted early in the second half at the Emirates Stadium when the Brazilian pulled up and indicated he needed to be replaced.

The club are already without Pablo Mari and Rob Holding because of injury and boss Mikel Arteta had to turn to Shkodran Mustafi when David went off.

The South American watched the rest of the match from the stands with heavy strapping and ice around his thigh/hamstring area.

The injury is a worry for Mikel and David is a now a doubt for Thursday’s match versus Dundalk and next Sunday’s match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Arteta is expected to be without Rob for three weeks because of the hamstring injury, while Mari has missed the start of the campaign with an ankle injury.

So Shkodran, who was free to leave the Emirates in the summer, had to be thrown into his first taste of action this term against Leicester and could now get a run in the team.

In other news, Arsenal will allegedly have to fight off competition from both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in order to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon in 2021.

The Gunners were strongly mentioned with the France international during the summer transfer market but were unable to come to an agreement with Les Gones over a transfer fee.

Aouar ultimately remained with his French side, but the speculation surrounding his long-term future is again gathering pace, with a recent report stating that Mikel Arteta’s side could launch a January move.

According to Tuttosport, the London heavyweights are planning another swoop for the player, but Juve and PSG are also firmly in the race for his services.
