According to a recent report by Le10 Sport in France, Arsenal and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has yet to answer the management’s offer of a new contract to stay at the club.
The 30-year-old pacy attacker has been one of the few stars to maintain some level of consistency for Arsenal this campaign, notching eight goals in 12 Premier League matches.
The sheer presence of the Gabonese will give Arsenal fans hope of a Top 4 finish, but missing out may just leave the forward to consider his future.
Aubameyang will naturally want to play in the UEFA Champions League, and it’s now claimed that he has thus far failed to respond to Arsenal’s offer of a new contract.
Aubameyang allegedly knows Barcelona are keen, so is waiting on that Arsenal offer, meaning Arsenal risk losing their star striker.
His current deal – worth £200,000 per week according to Spotrac – ends in the summer of 2021, so the striker is approaching the final 18 months of his deal at the Emirates Stadium.
Fans will not want him to go, but it has been something a problem fitting Pierre-Emerick and Alexandre Lacazette into the same side, so selling one to reinvest somewhere else is a popular train of thought.
If Barcelona really push for him, it will be tempting for him to move to Catalonia and play regular Champions League football, and his silence thus far is a big concern.
