Nuno Gomes has urged the Primeira Liga giants Benfica to re-sign the Brazil international David Luiz from Arsenal.

The 33-year-old defender spent four years at the Portuguese outfit before he joined Chelsea in a £21.5m deal back in 2011.

The centre-back has admitted he is interested in the idea of returning to Estadio Sport Lisboa e Benfica before ending his playing career.

And Nuno, who played alongside the Gunners man at Benfica, is keen for the transfer to take place.

‘Let’s see what happens,’ Nuno told Goal. ‘I remember that when he left Benfica he was very well adapted to Portugal in terms of his career on the pitch and his social life off the pitch.

‘He was like a Portuguese already in terms of his way of life and culture. He struggled a little bit to leave because he was doing very well and was very well settled here. But the offer that he received he couldn’t refuse.

‘But he always said that one day he wanted to return. I don’t know if it will be possible or not, but I would love it to happen.’

Elsewhere, Arsenal are allegedly currently in contract talks with teenage midfielder Miguel Azeez.

The 18-year-old Englishman made his first-team debut for Arsenal against Dundalk in the UEFA Europa League in December, featuring as a late substitute in the Gunners’ 4-2 win.

Azeez’s existing contract with the club is due to expire at the end of the campaign, but according to The Sun, the club are in talks with the youngster over a new long-term deal.
