Arsenal are reportedly set to consider reinforcing their defence further as they have been paired with an interest in Athletic Bilbao star Unai Nunez.
The Gunners were busy attempting to shore up their backline in the summer as they signed stalwart David Luiz from Chelsea, while BBC Sport note how they spent £27 million on William Saliba before loaning the talent back to Saint Etienne.
In turn, he will be back next summer to attempt and offer a long-term solution in defence for the Gunners, while the likes of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding will also continue to hope to cement their place in the starting XI moving forward.
In spite of identifying and taking steps to become a more rock-solid defensive unit though, the club have still conceded 11 goals in just eight PL games so far this season.
That follows on from conceding 51 in 38 league outings the previous year, giving the north Londoners the second-worst defensive record of the top nine clubs in the standings.
With that in mind, the Daily Mail report that Gunners could swoop for Bilbao ace Nunez, although it is noted that it will not be cheap considering he’s said to have a buy-out clause of around £30m.
Further, Everton are also said to be keen on the 22-year-old, and so time will tell whether or not Gunners can fend off the competition and land another important, long-term acquisition for Emery.
