Arsenal have announced that youngster Bukayo Saka has put pen to paper on a fresh long-term deal at the club.

The Gunners had been sweating over his contract situation, with the 18-year-old’s previous contract due to expire in 2021, but the youngster has finally put an end to the uncertainty about his future.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United were both monitoring proceedings over latest weeks and months and Mikel Arteta will be relieved that the club have managed to tie down the all-around midfielder.

The Spaniard told the club’s official website: ‘Bukayo is a talented and intelligent young player.

‘He has impressed me with his work ethic and attitude to learn and adapt, and it has paid off in his performances.

‘I am excited to continue working with him to develop him further, and for him to help us achieve our goals.’

Chief Edu added: ‘This is something everyone involved wanted to happen and we are delighted that Bukayo has signed a new long-term contract.

‘He’s making great progress and is one of a number of young players who have developed through our academy. This is so important for us as we move forward as a club.’

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly hopeful that David Luiz can help convince defender Thiago Silva to move to the Emirates Stadium.

After eight years at PSG, the centre-half is available on a free transfer this summer, inevitably resulting in widespread interest in the star’s signature.

However, the 35-year-old Brazilian is said to hold an interest in moving to the PL, resulting in Arsenal emerging as a potential destination for him.

According to Le 10 Sport, Mikel Arteta has already held negotiations with the Brazilian in an attempt to win the race for his services.
