Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could allow Alexandre Lacazette to quit the club this summer if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decides to extend his deal at the Emirates.
Lacazette has fallen out of favour under manager Mikel Arteta and has been playing second fiddle in the latest weeks to youngster Eddie Nketiah.
Aubameyang has entered the final year of his deal with the Gunners and despite recent optimism from Mikel over an extension, an agreement appears to be no closer over a fresh deal.
Arteta is desperate to keep the Gabon international but the uncertainty means the chief has to plan for all scenarios.
Should Aubameyang decide against penning a new deal, Arsenal will likely cash in on the star and that would hand a lifeline to Lacazette.
According to Football London, Lacazette’s future won’t be decided until the club can come to a resolution with Pierre-Emerick and the Frenchman could leave if Aubameyang agrees a fresh deal.
Recent reports claim Arsenal could use Alexandre as a makeweight in a move for Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey.
The Frenchman was set to sign for Diego Simeone’s side in 2017 before Los Rojiblancos were hit with a transfer ban and Arteta is keen on signing Thomas in order to add more strength to his midfield.
The Ghanian has a £45m exit clause in his contract but Arsenal are having to get creative in the transfer window, such is the dire financial situation at the club.
Arsenal have announced that youngster Bukayo Saka has put pen to paper on a fresh long-term deal at the club.
The Gunners had been sweating over his contract situation, with the 18-year-old’s previous contract due to expire in 2021, but the youngster has finally put an end to the uncertainty about his future.
Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United were both monitoring proceedings over latest weeks and months and Mikel Arteta will be relieved that the club have managed to tie down the all-around midfielder.
The Spaniard told the club’s official website: ‘Bukayo is a talented and intelligent young player.
‘He has impressed me with his work ethic and attitude to learn and adapt, and it has paid off in his performances.
‘I am excited to continue working with him to develop him further, and for him to help us achieve our goals.’
Chief Edu added: ‘This is something everyone involved wanted to happen and we are delighted that Bukayo has signed a new long-term contract.
‘He’s making great progress and is one of a number of young players who have developed through our academy. This is so important for us as we move forward as a club.’
Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly hopeful that David Luiz can help convince defender Thiago Silva to move to the Emirates Stadium.
After eight years at PSG, the centre-half is available on a free transfer this summer, inevitably resulting in widespread interest in the star’s signature.
However, the 35-year-old Brazilian is said to hold an interest in moving to the PL, resulting in Arsenal emerging as a potential destination for him.
According to Le 10 Sport, Mikel Arteta has already held negotiations with the Brazilian in an attempt to win the race for his services.
Lyon striker Memphis Depay is reportedly being lined up as a possible replacement for Arsenal stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, should both players depart from the Emirates.
The Gunners forwards are both facing uncertain futures at the club, with Pierre-Emerick’s current contract due to expire in 2021 and Alexandre’s just a year later.
The Gabon international is being chased by a host of top European clubs including Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona after another impressive season, scoring 17 Premier League goals.
Meantime, Lacazette has struggled for goals and been regularly replaced in the team by 21-year-old Eddie Nketiah, prompting speculation that the striker could also leave the club this summer.
And according to Le 10 Sport, should one, or both attackers go, Mikel Arteta is keen on ex-Manchester United ace Depay to come in as a replacement.
The 26-year-old struggled to make an impact during his two-year stint at Old Trafford but has had a resurgence in form in the French league.
Depay’s deal is due to expire next summer and the report claims that he is looking elsewhere, with a return to the PL a potential option.
Arteta is believed to rate the personality and technical ability of the Netherlands international.
The Gunners and Pierre-Emerick have been locked in contract talks for months, with no agreement yet to be found.
In other news, Arsenal have confirmed that wing-back Bukayo Saka has signed a new long-term deal with the club.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Gunners, making 33 appearances across all competitions while netting three goals and providing 11 assists in the process.
