Arsenal are plotting a summer swoop for Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, reports say.
Manager Mikel Arteta is hoping to add experience and maturity to his roster in the window, which was a big factor in landing Cedric Soares and David Luiz to new deals.
This change in direction could see the future of midfielder Matteo Guendouzi come into question, with the talent having reportedly informed the club that he wants to quit, having been dropped for his side’s win at Southampton.
But one player that could be arriving at the Gunners, however, is the Porto midfielder Pereira.
According to ESPN, Arsenal are “exploring” the possibility of landing the 37-cap Portugal international – who has two years remaining on his deal.
The 28-year-old star boasts plenty of high-level experience, having won UEFA Euro 2016 with his country – as well as a Liga NOS title with the Dragons.
His current contract possesses a £55 million release clause.
However, because of the financial effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, Porto may cash in on the player for around a third of this figure.
Meeting Financial Fair Play rules could also force them into selling.
Danilo currently earns £48,000 per week at the Estadio Dragao, meaning the Gunners could comfortably afford his wage demands.
The Gunners have also been heavily linked with Thomas Partey as they seek to strengthen their midfield engine room.
But the club are not currently in a position to meet the Atletico Madrid skipper’s £50m release clause.
The Gunners’ transfer kitty will be boosted if they can manage to qualify for European football next season.
