European heavyweights and La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly planning a surprise January swoop for Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal.

According to the Spanish nationwide daily sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, as quoted on Alex Kirkland, the Blaugrana are in the market for an experienced full-back in the new year.

The Catalan club have shortlisted three players that include; Liverpool’s Spanish defender Alberto Moreno, Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis and Monreal himself.

Nacho was heavily linked with a transfer away from the North London over the summer but has stayed put.

There was initial interest from the La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, some reports claiming that negotiations over a deal took place during the summer transfer window.

Heading into the new campaign it was unclear what role Nacho would have at the club under Spanish manager Unai Emery, who strengthened defensively ahead of his first season in London.

Monreal has been a regular for Arsenal in recent years and has been utilised both as a central defender and a left-back.

This term, Spaniard has made 3 EPL appearances for Gunners and netted one goal.
