New Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy made a serious impression on Manchester United defender Luke Shaw as the sides played out a goalless draw last week at Old Trafford.

Mendy arrived at the club from Rennes during the transfer window and has immediately made an impression, taking the gloves from the out-of-form Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Senegalese star has kept clean sheets in three of his four matches for the Blues and pulled off some impressive saves versus the Red Devils on Saturday.

A late save from a curling Marcus Rashford shot was especially memorable, and Luke was frustrated and impressed by the 28-year-old stopper.

‘I feel like we created the better chances,’ the Englishman told Manchester United’s official website. ‘Their keeper made wonderful saves at times.

‘I was right behind it [Rashford’s shot] and, like I said, their keeper was very good today. He made a couple of very good saves that kept them in the game.’

Edouard did have one unusual moment when he nearly netted a bizarre own goal as he played a wayward pass towards defender Thiago Silva.

Completely misplacing the ball, the keeper very nearly played it straight into his own goal, but it slid past the post and out for a corner.

It was otherwise an assured and impressive display from the giant Edouard, though, as he earned his side a point.

Elsewhere, Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri remains on the radar of Serie A outfits.

The Italy international has found himself behind Ben Chilwell in boss Frank Lampard’s early campaign plans.

Sky Sport Italia claims a January departure could be on for the Blues outcast.
