Villa manager Dean Smith wants to land a defensive midfielder following the decision to release experienced duo Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan and the Welshman is more than capable of playing in that position.
The former Exeter City ace would be tempted by a transfer and will be helped in his decision with Blues legend John Terry, assistant manager at Aston Villa.
Smith is leading a big summer overhaul of his roster, with Kortney Hause, Anwar El Ghazi and Jota already signing on the dotted line this transfer window, while eight stars have been released following their return to the EPL.
Aston Villa are also interested in signing Stoke City and England goalkeeper Jack Butland in the summer, while Tyrone Mings, who made an impression during a loan stint in the second half of last campaign at Villa Park, is another player the newly-promoted club have their eye on – but a swoop for the 26-year-old isn’t expected to be imminent.
Meantime, Italian manager Maurizio Sarri is reportedly interested in raiding former club Chelsea for Italian duo Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri.
The 60-year-old tactician was confirmed as Massimiliano Allegri’s replacement at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday, ending his 11-month stint in charge of the Blues.
According to The Times, Maurizio wants to add Emerson and Jorginho to his roster as part of a rebuild.
