Chelsea’s eye-catching summer spending does not seem to be over yet as they continue to monitor the situation of West Ham’s Declan Rice.

The England international is a player that Frank Lampard is very fond of and he is poised to see him return to Stamford Bridge.

A deal looked like it’d be off the cards after the Hammers made it clear that they wouldn’t take any less than £80m for the player.

However, a recent report from The Athletic has stated that Frank Lampard may have a way around this.

The Blues head coach in on the hunt for a holding midfielder to help improve his defensive frailties. Declan is firmly the club’s first choice and they are aware that he won’t come cheap.

This is why Lampard is ready to table an offer of cash plus playmaker Ross Barkley, in hopes to lower the hefty asking price.

The former Everton ace signed for Chelsea back in 2018 and has been more of a fringe player than a starter.

Although, he played a huge role in the Blues’ FA Cup run – helping to knock Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and scoring the winning goal over Leicester City in the quarter-finals.

Barkley’s time at the club has seen him score just 10 goals and make 11 assists in 85 games.

Not the best numbers for a midfielder but surely an amount to help replace anything lost through the sale of Declan.

The end of the transfer market is drawing to a close and the club must act fast if they want to bring in a successor for the outbound N’Golo Kante.
