Chelsea are reportedly showing an interest in Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi, but face competition from Real Madrid, reports from Spain say.
Wilfred has largely impressed for Leicester since joining them from Genk in the winter of 2017, helping to replace N’Golo Kante after the French star left for Chelsea.
And according to Mundo Deportivo, Wilfred could now follow Kante to Stamford Bridge, as the star has emerged as a target for the west Londoners.
The Blues could need a new defensive midfielder if they lose Jorginho to Juventus, where former manager Maurizio Sarri would like to be reunited – although Frank Lampard insists that the Italian is not on the market.
Another side in need of a holding midfielder, though, is Real Madrid, as the Brazil international Casemiro is approaching the later years of his professional career at 28 years old.
Madrid have been looking at Rennes ace Eduardo Camavinga – also linked with a PL move – but it is claimed by Todofichajes that Wilfred would be a cheaper alternative.
The Leicester man is understood to be valued at no more than €40m, and the club would apparently be willing to make some money on him – who would be unlikely to turn down a move to Los Blancos.
However, those reports mark a contrast to previous claims, which indicated that Ndidi would not be allowed to depart the King Power Stadium.
The Blues remains an alternative destination, though, with Paris Saint-Germain also mentioned as potential suitors – while Wilfred has also been suggested as a target for Manchester United in the past.
The Nigerian star is under contract with Leicester until the summer of 2024, and he has previously confessed he is content at the King Power Stadium.
Juventus are reportedly on the hunt for yet more free transfers after entering the race to sign Chelsea forward Pedro.
The Spaniard’s deal expires at the end of the campaign, and the 32-year-old has already confirmed his five-year stay at the club will come to a close.
And after talk Roma are preparing to offer Pedro a switch to Italy, Serie A champions Bianconeri are the latest to express interest in the winger.
Old Lady chiefs managed to snap up Aaron Ramsey, Sami Khedira, Dani Alves, Emre Can and Adrien Rabot for nothing and will look to contact Pedro to land in a similar deal.
Juve manager Maurizio Sarri is looking to reunite with the attacker having spent last season with him at the Blues, according to Calciomercato.com.
He featured 52 times under the Italian tactician, scoring 13 goals as they went on to lift the UEFA Europa League.
The Brazil star Willian also appears to be at loggerheads with Chelsea senior figures, having failed to agree a contract extension.
The 31-year-old forward is demanding a three-year deal but the hierarchy are only willing to offer him two.
Willian has been mentioned with a move to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Juventus and Barcelona.
Manager Frank Lampard is working to find successors and Porto’s Jesus Corona Corona’s entourage Matias Bunge told Medio Tiempo:
“At some point we talked to them [Chelsea]. I cannot say if he’s option A, B or C, now they are rather rumours.
“We’ll have to wait a bit for this to continue moving forward and for the leagues to begin again, and from there see what the next movements will be because the market is a little bit stopped.”
Real Madrid have declined the chance to land Chelsea winger Willian because of the South American’s wage demands.
The 31-year-old star is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after seven seasons at the club.
Willian had been keen to remain in west London but his representatives were unhappy with the length of the management’s offer and as it stands he’s set to depart.
The Brazilian’s agents have since offered the winger to a host of European clubs and Real Madrid are the latest to be given the opportunity to sign Willian, according to the Mirror.
Zinedine Zidane is an admirer of the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder but the club have turned down the chance to sign Willian.
The La Liga giants could sign Willian for nothing but they’re unwilling to give him the three-year contract he craves, nevermind matching his £120,000 per week wage demands.
Spurs and Arsenal have both been mentioned with Willian as Premier League clubs seek bargains in the summer to combat the financial effect of the pandemic.
However, Willian’s entourage Kia Joorabchian, says it’s ‘disrespectful’ to speak about interest from other teams. ‘At the moment, he’s a Chelsea player,’ Kia said.
‘He has a contract with Chelsea until the season is over, so I think it is disrespectful to talk about him moving to other clubs. We have not spoken to Tottenham, or any other club, at the moment.’
