Chelsea dealt major blow in their pursuit of 2014 FIFA World Cup winner

Matthias Ginter has played down rumours that he could be set for a switch to Chelsea and declared that he’s ‘definitely staying’ at Borussia Monchengladbach this transfer market.

The 26-year-old centre-half, who won a World Cup winners’ medal with his country’s national team back in 2014, impressed at the heart of Gladbach’s defence this term and won plenty of admirers with his performances in the German top-flight.

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Arsenal have all been linked with Matthias ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and the Germany international admits he has been ‘flattered’ by the recent speculation.

But the central defender has no plans to switch club anytime soon and it is clear where he sees his future.

‘I’m definitely staying in Gladbach,’ Matthias told a German publication Kicker when quizzed about the rumours.

‘Of course I heard of the enquiries and was flattered by this attention. But I’ve said often enough how good things are for me in Gladbach.’

Matthias added: ‘The current team has great potential and the coach has brought a huge added value for us.

‘The club is in the process of building something with the great fans and the environment. I also have big goals with the club and of course I’m still tied into a contract.’

His current contract is due to expire in 2021 but Gladbach have an option to extend his contract by 12 more months.

However, Gladbach are hopeful that the centre-back will commit his long-term future to the club with a lengthier deal.

Chelsea eye late bid to beat league rivals to signing of Real Madrid ace

Chelsea are allegedly poised to make a move for Real Madrid loanee Sergio Reguilon after Leicester City demanded a world record sum for Ben Chilwell.

Reguilon enjoyed an excellent campaign on loan at Sevilla from Real Madrid and was named the Spanish top-flight’s best left-back.

Then 23-year-old is a rising star and Everton have already attempted to lure the Spaniard to the Premier League.

The Toffees bid £18 million for Reguilon last week, but a sports TV channel Sky Sports claim the Blues are set to trump that offer.

Frank Lampard has made landing a left-back a top priority this summer, but the Blues have struggled to land his top target, Chilwell.

The Foxes want over £80million for the England international, more than what Manchester United paid for centre-half Harry Maguire a year ago.

He is the world’s most expensive defender and Chelsea have already forked out a combined £90 million on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Reguilon is highly rated at Real Madrid, but the La Liga champions already have a wealth of variants in his position.

The full-back is expected to be one of the players pinpointed for sale so Real can balance their books.

Chelsea are expected to continue spending as Frank aims to completely revamp his squad this summer.

Bayern Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz has also been linked, while Frank also wants a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga who was dropped for the final Premier League match and the FA Cup final.

£54m-rated Chelsea ace will miss more than month due to hamstring problem

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic will miss at least four weeks to injury, reports say.

The American hobbled off with a hamstring injury in the FA Cup final defeat to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal over the weekend and is set to miss the rest of the 2019/20 season.

TalkSport claim the Blues will be without Pulisic for their Champions League decider versus Bayern Munich this weekend and will only just return to training when the new campaign begins.

Pulisic is expected to miss between four and five weeks because of the injury.

The Premier League have pencilled in 12 September to kick off the 2020/21 term and Pulisic is in a race against time to be fit for his side’s opener.

Pulisic has been Chelsea’s star man in the latest weeks and scored the Blues’ only goal in the 2-1 defeat to the Gunners in the FA Cup final.

The 21-year-old ace posted a short update on his Instagram after picking up the injury but assured Chelsea supporters it would be a short lay-off.

Frank Lampard has bemoaned the amount of injuries his roster has picked up in the last month, with Christian joined by Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro in the treatment room.

The former Barcelona man underwent surgery on his shoulder this week which brings a close to his five-year stint at Stamford Bridge having already agreed to sign for Roma when his contract expires.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have reportedly joined the race for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Everton and Sevilla are also understood to be keen on the 23-year-old Spaniard after he impressed on loan in Andalusia.
