Chelsea and league rivals Manchester United are among a number of clubs that have reportedly asked for information about the availability of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Croatian star’s contract situation at Blaugrana is causing an uproar in his admirers for the summer transfer market.

The Blues and the Red Devils are among a host of sides that include Juventus, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan that have reportedly stepped up their interest in the central midfielder.

The report claims that Chelsea and Manchester United have made an enquiry as to the player’s availability, a report backed by the Daily Mail as well.

On the other hand, Ivan is not looking for a transfer, with the player ready to sit down with the club and crack out a negotiated settlement to extend his contract.

Sport also claim that Rakitic is aware of the interest his possible availability has been able to generate and he is trying to pressure Blaugrana into handing him a new deal.

The star is key to Ernesto Valverde’s team and with the coach agreeing to an extension at the club, Ivan’s chances of getting a renewal offer from the Catalan club have increased.

Chelsea have Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley, with Ivan’s compatriot Mateo Kovacic still having less than 6 months left on his loan deal.

But, Ross has disappointed recently while N’Golo seems to be far off from adjusting to the Sarri-ball philosophy just yet.

Even Italo-Brazilian Jorginho hasn’t managed to set the stage aflame, with his passes not really cutting it at the EPL level.
