Chelsea have pinpointed Matthias Ginter as the man to solve their defensive dilemma, reports say.

The Blues have already spent big on reinforcements in that attack this summer transfer market. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have arrived to transform the Blues frontline.

However, if the club are to convert the current sense of anticipation into a genuine Premier League title challenge, they may need to invest in their defence as well.

And according to a report by Kicker, they have cast their gaze towards a Bundesliga defender.

The player in question is Matthias Ginter, who has been one of the league’s best defenders in 2019-20. But with his deal expiring next summer, Borussia Monchengladbach face a tough decision about one of their key players.

Gladbach do have the option to renew his deal by a further year but are aware that selling the star this year may maximise their profit. Hence, several of the continent’s top clubs have informed them of their interest.

Inter Milan want to tempt club and player by offering big money to both sides to get a deal done. However, the west London heavyweights are ready to rival them for his signature.

According to Kicker, the Blues possess a “concrete interest” in Ginter, who has 29 caps for his country. Despite this, they are yet to make an official offer.

Atletico Madrid are another rival for Matthias. Gladbach senior figure Max Eberl insisted recently, however, that they wouldn’t be letting any of their top talent leave.

Hence, Frank Lampard’s side will have to pull together a compelling offer if they want to tempt the Bundesliga side into selling.
