According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are keen on signing Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso next year.

It’s noted that Van Aanholt’s contract expires at the end of the season, and the Eagles currently hope that the Dutchman signs a fresh deal.

However, the club are looking at possible alternatives just in case Van Aanholt does want to depart, and Alonso is one target.

The 29-year-old Marcos has played just three league games this term and has not appeared at all since the 3-3 draw with West Brom in September.

The Spaniard had an absolute nightmare in that match, as the former Fiorentina man was booked and way off the pace before being hooked at half time by manager Frank Lampard.

With the England international Ben Chilwell now the clear first-choice left-back, Marcos has little chance of starting any time soon and may need to move on next year.

That’s where the Eagles could come in. They can offer Marcos the chance to stay in London, where the Spaniard has been since his 2016 transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Michy Batshuayi and Gary Cahill have both signed for Palace from Chelsea in the latest times, and joining up with them again could be appealing to Marcos.

He still has more than two-and-a-half years left on his Stamford Bridge contract, meaning the Blues can still demand a sum, but he’s clearly down the pecking order under Frank Lampard, so Palace could sense a bargain.
