Frank Lampard has ruled winger Christian Pulisic out of Chelsea’s clash with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday while three more summer acquisitions will also miss the match at Stamford Bridge.

The American attacker was in sensational form at the end of last campaign, scoring and assisting in a thrilling game at Anfield after the restart, but he picked up a hamstring injury in the FA Cup final versus Arsenal.

Lampard had been optimistic about Christian’s recovery but he suffered a setback before the trip to face Brighton next week night and is still struggling.

Summer signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell are also still recovering from their own injury problems, while defender Thiago Silva is lacking match fitness, though striker Timo Werner is fine.

‘Chilwell is not ready for the game, neither is Christian Pulisic,’ confirmed Frank at his pre-match press conference on Friday. ‘We hope they will work well during the week.

‘Hakim Ziyech is also not ready for the game. Werner is fit, though. ‘Thiago has been training for the last three or four days, but Liverpool will come too soon for him.’

Ben arrived at Chelsea carrying an injury while Hakim picked up a knock in the club’s only pre-season friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion.

None of the quartet are expected to be risked if fit versus Barnsley in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday, though they may target a return to action against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on September 26.
