Spanish giants Real Madrid pulled their long-standing interest in landing Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi because of the player’s wife-turned-agent Wanda Nara, according to a report.
The forward is in limbo at his current side after losing the captaincy and dropped from the senior team squad. It is believed to be connected to an ongoing contract dispute – his current contract ends in 2021.
Icardi’s wife Wanda said the previous month that Inter Milan were yet to offer his husband and client a new contract.
Reports stated San Siro officials were stalling on Icardi’s £170,000 per week wage demands. This will no doubt alert the Blues, who are believed to be long-term suitors of the 25-year-old star.
But according to a Spanish outlet Marca, one place the former Sampdoria player won’t be heading is to the Santiago Bernabeu. It is reported that Real Madrid ditched plans for a January move because of “Wanda’s behaviour”.
The 32-year-old model and TV host has been openly critical of Nerazzurri’s transfer policy and has even taken a swipe at displays on the pitch.
That will open the door for Maurizio Sarri’s side to plot a move for Argentina international this summer transfer market – with the striker zone still a department of concern.
And though Mauro’s future remains up in the air, Inter Milan fans seem pleased that the captaincy has gone to experienced goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.
As does Mauro’s team-mate Marcelo Brozovic, who liked a photo on social media, Instagram showing that his teammate was no longer captain.
