Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy snubbed a summer transfer to Chelsea, according to Amiens chief John Williams.

The 24-year-old forward was heavily linked with a move to the PL this past summer, with several teams said to be interested in acquiring his services.

Crystal Palace, Tottenham and West Ham were all said to be interested in landing the former France Under-20 international.

A move to England, however, never materialised – which paved the way for Les Rouge et Noir to swoop in and sign him to a five-year contract.

But according to their sporting director, the Ligue 1 side could have been pipped to his signature by the Stamford Bridge outfit.

“He refused to go to Chelsea during the last window,” John said of Guirassy’s departure during an interview with French outlet Le Parisien.

“Serhou made a sporting choice when he could earn more money with the London team.

“He wanted to continue in a club where he was sure to have some playing time and not relive an experience like the one in Cologne where he was a substitute.

“The choice fell on Rennes because coach Julien Stephan assured him that he was counting on him.”

Meantime, Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is allegedly eyeing a January exit from Stamford Bridge as the Frenchman continues to struggle for playing time under Frank Lampard.

He was linked with a move to Italy over the summer, which did not come to fruition, but the ex-Arsenal man is now in the final months of his deal in the capital and seems destined to leave.

According to, Olivier will look to secure a transfer away from Chelsea in January rather than run his contract down, with Inter Milan interested in the France international.
